IE Pro Digital Trouble shooting guide

Board Problems - No Interaction between board and pen (indicated by left light)

No Lights on board

Check plug into bottom of board is secure and locking screws are tightened

**For installations with silver wall plate only**

  • Check that the 9-pin serial plug at the computer end has a power lead plugged in (the serial lead may be found plugged directly into the computer or via a USB adapter).
  • Check power lead is connected to the power pack from a socket (Important: ensure 5v power pack)
  • Check that socket is working correctly by connecting another device to it.
  • If possible try swapping with another 5V power supply off another IE Pro Digital board.
  • Try the power lead on another device and/or check fuse.
  • Check for bent pins in the plugs, and damage to cables.

Both Lights stay Constant Green + no interaction

  1. Shut down PC
  2. Unplug serial cable from board and Wait 1 minute
  3. Reconnect serial cable to board
  4. Restart PC

Left light stays red when touching board with pen

  • Check that the pen is charging (right light turns red or green when pen is placed in the Pen dock)
  • Try leaving pen to charge (overnight if possible) – to check if pen is holding charge
  • Try pen connected to the board using the pen charge cable
  • If possible try a pen off a known working board to establish if pen is faulty (only after first steps)

Board working (left light turns to green) but not functioning properly

  • Check permissions
  • Remove power supply to board when plugging in USB or shut down computer

Note: This is not considered a fault as the USB is purely an adapter to allow the use of the USB ports rather than Serial (Serial units usually need to be powered up and the computer started up to use)
  • Reduce image to fit within board and retry
  • Check permissions
  • Try restarting the board esp if smartkeys don’t work down right side
  • Restart board
  • Check in smartkey editor that they have been set
  • Check correct USB adapter is being used
  • Dell laptops try disconnecting power when booting (network card)

Intermittent interaction using Laptops

  • Check to see if USB is set to power down to save power
  • Check to see if they are plugged into the mains or not
  • Test USB ports with another device ie memory stick
  • Try different USB ports
  • Try different laptop to see if board or laptop problem

Spiking

  • Check pen is charged fully (overnight charge or use cable when using)
  • Check environmental, TV’s etc near to board
  • How often does it spike is it specific to any activity or time?
  • Try a different laptop (maybe software issues)
  • Try a different pen off a working board
  • Try updating software to latest version
  • Check correct USB converter is used
  • Check cable hasn’t pulled out of the board slightly or kicked over
  • Faulty/damaged Serial cable
  • Try restarting board

Board is ok in centre but runs out towards edges

  • Check permissions
  • Check Computer resolution
  • Auto set projector
  • Check projector settings or reset to factory defaults and re-configure
Projectors

No image at all

  • Check if there is power to the projector and lights showing (does fan start?)
  • Check for warning lights combination (reference projector manual)
  • Check make sure lens cover is not on (if fan can be heard)

Projector on but no computer/video image

  • No signal = Try switching display modes on laptop (function key + F key)
  • Try cycling projector modes, computer, svideo, video
  • Check leads are correctly plugged in and correct way around
  • Check switch on wall plate is on computer

Other problems

  • Projector goes dim then bright (Pulsing), can be a sign of a faulty lamp does it pulse in blue screen
  • Dull image try replace bulb
  • Image not completely on screen/distorted – adjust screen resolution on computer (usually 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768)
  • Menu’s upside down – change via menu’s
  • Image tapered vertically – adjust keystone
  • Remote wont work/projector wont switch on via remote – check that remote has clean line of sight ie is security cage in way?
  • Black and white image
    • Try connecting direct to projector
    • Check plugs for damage
  • Video wont play on projector or is stuttering, all else is fine – change laptop output to just projector output, usually graphics card related
